Sri Lanka's tea plantations

Known as the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean‘ Sri Lanka is a beautiful island with an interesting past. Now with the ‘Tiger Story‘ over, the island country can look forward to some peace and rebuilding.

The island is rich in fauna and flora. The rich green look with heavy and humid air makes for quite a heady combination and the climate does take a bit of time to get used to. Elephant processions are a true mix of both traditional and local, newer customs. The island has many festivals during which you will be able to enjoy Kandyan dances.

Sri Lanka’s coastline is beautiful with many locations where you can rest under palm trees with a cool drink, or if you prefer you can enjoy water sports. If the beaches are not for you then head for the hills. Yes they may not be the Himalayas but they are lush rolling green hillsides flush with tea bushes.

Getting around Sri Lanka

Buses and trains are widely available for your use while traveling in Sri Lanka. The only domestic flights are between Jaffna and Colombo. You might prefer to hire a cab rather than the bus if you are not traveling on a shoestring budget.

There is also the provision of hiring motorcycles for sightseeing if you are not averse to driving one around and are traveling as a couple. A family will naturally need to hire a taxi car. These bookings can be managed by your hotel if you let them know in advance.
